Central government has launched a new scheme for the welfare of mothers. This scheme is launched by the name PM Matru Vandana Yojana. Majority of women in our country  are affected from insufficient nutrition. According to a report every second women is suffering from anaemic and every third women is undernourished. Thus, when a undernourished mother gives birth, it is almost inevitable that, baby will born with low weight.

Once poor nutrition starts in baby it extends throughout his/her life. Because of the economic conditions women kept working until the last days of her pregnancy. Once they deliver baby, they resume their work almost immediately. They do this even when their body does not permit it. This prevents mother’s body to fully recover. This also impend mother ability to breastfeed their baby for six months.

Thus, central government has started a Maternity Benefit Programme throughout the country in every district. It started from 1st of January 2019 by the name PM Matru Vandana Yojana. Under this scheme, mother receives cash amount of Rs 5,000/-. This amount is been provided directly into their bank account through DBT. More details about scheme are in article below.

PM Matru Vandana Yojana 2019

PMMVY (Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana) is for the pregnant and lactating mothers. Under this scheme, these mothers will receive financial support from government. The financial assistance will be given to first child of family. Mothers must be fulfilling all the conditions of the scheme to take the benefit of it. PMMVY is implemented using the platform of Anganwadi Services scheme of Umbrella ICDS.

It is implemented under Ministry of Women & Child Development in respect of UTs/ States. Implementation takes place through Women & Child Development Department/ Social Welfare Department.  PMMVY implemented through a centrally deployed web based MIS software application & the focal point of implementation would be the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) & ASHA/ ANM workers.

To help mother and her child achieve a healthy condition, Central government has launched this scheme. Central government offers financial assistance of Rs 5,000/- in this scheme. This cash amount can be used by mother to achieve better nutritional condition. Better nutritional diet will make sure a healthily mother and healthy baby.

PMMVY Objective

  1. Scheme objective is to make sure that mother take proper rest before and after the delivery of first child. For this scheme offers cash amount and incentives to pregnant mothers.
  2. This scheme aim is to improve the pregnant and lactating mother health seeking behavior.

PMMVY Beneficiaries

  1. Those women who are pregnant and lactating are eligible for this scheme.
  2. Women working in central or State government or even PSUs are not eligible for this scheme.
  3. Those woman who are working in environment, which is offers same benefits under the law are also not eligible for this scheme.
  4. Women pregnant with her first child on or after 1st of January 2017 are eligible for this scheme benefit.
  5. The benefit will be given to the pregnant or LM women with respect to LMP dates that were mentioned on her MCP card.
  6. In Condition of Still Birth/Miscarriage:-
  7. One beneficiary is eligible to take the benefit of this scheme only once.
  8. In condition of Still Birth/Miscarriage beneficiary will get the scheme benefit for future pregnancy.
  9. If the Miscarriage happens after the first instalment, then mother will be eligible to taek the second and third instalment of this scheme in her future pregnancy. Also it is subjected to fulfilling other criteria of this scheme.
  10.  In Case of Miscarriage after 2nd instalment, mother will be eligible for 3rd instalment for her future pregnancy.
  11. In Condition of Infant Mortality – In condition of infant mortality mother will not be eligible to take the benefit instalment of this scheme for next time.
  12. Benefit of this scheme will also be given to pregnant and Lactating ASHA/ AWWs/ AWHs if they fulfil all the criteria of this scheme.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana 2019 Benefits

  1. Under this scheme central government offers cash incentives of Rs 5,000/-. This cash amount is given in three instalments. The first instalment of this scheme is Rs 1,000/-. This instalment is given when women register herself in the early stages of pregnancy at AWC. The second instalment of this scheme is Rs 2,000/-. This amount is given to women after six months of her pregnancy. The last and third instalment of Rs 2,000/- is given after the birth of child. Also after child receive first cycle of BCG, DPT, OPV and Hepatitis-B.
  2. Every mother who is eligible for this scheme will receive its benefit. They will also receive incentive of JSY (Janani Suraksha Yojana). JSY incentive will be accounted towards maternity benefits. Mother on an average will receive Rs 6,000/- from maternity benefits.

  1. To take the benefit of this scheme women need to register themselves at AWC (Anganwadi Centre).
  2. Registration of the scheme can be done by filling scheme application Form 1-A. Fill this form with every information asked in it. After this attach relevant documents with it with undertaking signed by her husband. While trying to submit the form applicants need to submit their Aadhar details with their consents written on it. Along with this submit mobile number and bank account details.
  3. The application form required to register for this scheme are available at AWC (Anganwadi Centre). These forms can also be downloaded from the official website of the scheme.

  5. To take the benefit of this scheme applicants need to fill scheme form to register themselves in it. After this they will able to claim the instalments of this scheme benefit. The claim can also be submitted in AWCs or approved health facilities. For future reference applicant must take acknowledgement for AWCs/ ANM/ ASHA workers.
  6. For the claim of scheme first instalment applicant have to fill Form 1-A with MCP (Mother & Child Protection) Card copy. Submit husband Aaddhar Card or other Identity Proof, Beneficiary identity proof/ Aadhar card, Bank Account/ Post office account details of Husband and Mother.
  7. To get second instalment of the scheme applicants have to fill Form 1-B. This form can be filled after the six months of pregnancy. With this form applicant need to submit MCP card copy which is showing at least one ANC.
  8. For the claim of third instalment of this scheme applicants need to fill form 1_C. With this they need to submit copy of child birth registration, MCP card copy and proof that child has received first cycle of vaccination.
  9. If beneficiaries are not been able to apply during the time of pregnancy. They can also apply for it later within a due time. Beneficiaries can apply within 730 days of pregnancy. Even if mothers haven’t made any claims for the instalments they are eligible for it to claim with 730 days after pregnancy. For the third instalment claim beneficiaries have to make it within 460 days after the child birth. After this they will not be able to make any claim for the benefit of this scheme.
